I shot Michelle’s wonderfully planned 21st a while ago. She had been planning this event since I met her a year ago, and I think that it shows. It was a wonderful night and a true celebration of her personality and brilliance!
The venue was very nice, and it worked very well for the 60/70-guest event. Only problem i faced, was that there were almost no walls to bounce my lights off, so I had to make another plan. I strapped my slave 430EX onto an old tri-pod (as I do at almost everything I shoot lately), and positioned it at various key spots throughout the night, triggering it with my master 550EX. It created a nice and even light for almost everything that I had to cover. I hate being obtrusive when shooting events like these, so, using the 430/550 combo and my Canon 70-200 L, I could hang back and capture everything without being annoying.
The group shots at the end of the night were even more difficult to light, as we went downstairs (so the ceiling was even higher) to shoot the formals on the amazing couches (also featured in my profile shot on the home page – thanx, Grethe), so I bounced my 430 off the wall camera left and my 550 off the ceiling for a light fill.
I liked these:
